CASE STUDY: Crisis averted

Crisis averted

Remaining viable and innovative is the key to remaining in business.

Thinkcare was approached by a client to help identify a solution to an occupancy crisis. The provider had run a large residential service for a number of years, however, it had continued to remain on 75% occupancy despite investing significant time and effort in attempting to increase occupancy.

By looking at a number of factors, such as the clinical approach and the outcomes being achieved, Thinkcare were able to help their client see that their current clinical model was highly effective when the service was at 75% occupancy, however over this level it became less than optimal leading to placement breakdowns. Rather than trying to push for occupancy past this optimal level, by identifying this limitation, Thinkcare was able to provide an alternative solution.

By capping the number of residential beds at 75%, and utilising the remaining beds as a separate crisis and respite service, Thinkcare was able to maintain the efficiancy of the current service and create an entirely new add on.

Outcome.

Thinkcare were successful in negotiating a contract with a local commissioning team to ensure a steady stream of referrals to the crisis and respite service.

Professor Rex Haigh FRCPsych

Nesha Kelly has been immensely helpful as a business development consultant, advising us of market opportunities, arranging introductions to new contacts to expand the areas we do business in,and following through right up to and including contract negotiations. As a result of her work we've been able to identify and take advantage of opportunities in developing new partnerships, agreed a contract for a new crisis service, started selling our training programme externally, and are currently expanding and diversifying by extending our reach to the individuals we support.
